Victoria Pratt lands starring role on Mutant X TV Show

The X Fan web site is reporting that XENA and CLEOPATRA 2525 actress Victoria Pratt - who just got married to XENA director TJ Scott - has been cast as one of the lead characters on the new TV show, Mutant X. Tribune Entertainment, the people behind Earth: Final Contact and Andromenda are behind the new show produced in association with Marvel Comics called "Mutant X".

The show is being filmed in Toronto with many of the people behind the TV show La Femme Nikita (which I loved), and so far has an all Canadian cast.

"29 year old Ontario native Victoria Pratt, whose previous roles include Sarge from Cleopatra 2525 and Cyane from Xena: Warrior Princess, will play Shalimar Fox, a.k.a. Shadowfox. She is a fiery and feral beauty utterly in touch with her primal nature. She is a little wild and completely unpredictable... breathtakingly sensual. Outrageous sexiness, with a dark edge. She has strong survival instincts, all of which are the natural outgrowth of her mutant abilities. She also has strength & speed. "

The show is the subject of some legal wrangling between Fox Entertainment, who produced the summer blockbuster "X Men" movie, and Marvel Enterprises Inc who own the rights to the X Men characters from the original comic books. Barring injunctions, filming is schedules to start in June, for an autumn premiere.

The Tibune web site has this summary of the series:
"MUTANT X represents the next generation of Marvel Entertainment`s highly popular franchise of mutant characters. The series details the exploits of MUTANT X, a group of humans bound together by a powerful bond of genetically engineered powers of an extraordinary nature. Realizing that genetics projects have spun out of control, the government forms the Office Of Mutant Research, whose sole mission is to capture all mutants in order to "repair" them. MUTANT X are on a mission to seek out fellow mutants to protect them from the government`s crusade and recruit them to further a guiding principle of peace and harmony between the mutants and the rest of humanity."

While the Official Mutant X tv web site has this back story..
"Meddling with genetic destiny has brought humanity to a moral crossroads -- with dire consequences. Now there`s only one hope for a future without fear.

Secret experiments to produce "designer babies" began in the 60’s. They were initially successful in merely enhancing positive human traits for concerned parents. However, the scientists had not foreseen the long-term effects of their genetic meddling. Mutations appeared randomly as the test subjects aged. Mutations no one had counted on.

These mutants are out there, and they don`t know what`s happening to them.

Suddenly, normal lives are shattered when electricity begins shooting from fingertips; other people`s secret thoughts come bombarding into an unprepared mind; athletic ability explodes into the grace and fury of a wild animal.

And -- they`re not alone. They`re being hunted. Those who created them wish to control them and their extraordinary abilities. They want the mutants back.

Sounds like a cross between X Men and Dark Angel! Also sounds pretty good...
